August 2024 · 8 minute read

GRAMMY Award winner Ariana Grande has eager fans counting down to March 8, when her new album Eternal Sunshine will be released.

She recently showcased her vocal talent alongside Mariah Carey in the remix of her song  Yes, And?... and has been busy working on the movie Wicked.

Having topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the original version of Yes, And?... it’s perhaps unsurprising that the remix has garnered over 1.9 million views on YouTube.

“Ari’s lighter feathery vocals plus Mariah’s mature, mixed of heavy and brighter vocals are eargasmic!!!” one person commented under the video.

“From covering Mariah Carey songs to having her featured on her own song Ariana has come so far and should be so proud of herself,” another wrote.

“Their vocals, whistles... everything are ON POINT!!! Mariah and Ariana never disappoint us! This is the collaboration of the year!” a third said.

Music icon Mariah also paid tribute to Ariana’s success with the newly-released song in a comment on Instagram.

“Darling angel, I am so effing excited to be joining you on the Yes, And? remix!! This is such a magical moment!! Love you [heart] MC,” she wrote.

The highly praised song features lyrics that many have interpreted as Ariana hitting back at critics, for having their say about her private life.

According to Yahoo, the former Nickelodeon star lost over 350,000 Instagram followers amid controversy surrounding the song.

However, the singer has often come under scrutiny for her relationship choices, weight loss, and alleged plastic surgery.

Here we reveal all...

'HOMEWRECKER' ACCUSATIONS

Ariana's dating history has been the topic of conversation throughout her years in the limelight, having gotten her big break aged 16 in TV series Victorious.

A year prior, she had met Riverdale actor Graham Phillips on the set of 13: The Musical.

Ariana Grande's new song yes, and leaves fans divided - as some followers slam lyrics as 'disgusting'

After the pair called it quits in 2011, Ariana began dating MTV star Jai Brooks in August 2012.

The singer was forced to deny claims that she had cheated on him when he took to Twitter to say she left him for “another man.”

“Woke up this morning in complete and utter shock …I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised,” she responded.

“You said to me if I didn’t come back to you, you’d make me look bad to the entire world. I’m no longer afraid of you or your lies anymore.”

In 2013, Ariana moved on with The Wanted’s singer Nathan Sykes and they worked together on the song Almost Is Never Enough.

By October 2014, the singer had put the relationship behind her and was dating rapper Big Sean.

The duo were together for around nine months and worked on songs together, including Research and Best Mistake.

The late Glee star Naya Rivera claimed in her autobiography Sorry Not Sorry that she caught Big Sean with the singer before their engagement was called off.

“We'd been fighting for five straight days while he was traveling, and then on the one day that he was back in LA, he said he didn't want to see me,” she wrote.

“Well, a******, I've got a key to your house. I walk in, go downstairs, and guess what little girl is sitting cross-legged on the couch listening to music?

“It rhymes with ‘Smariana Schmande.’”

Ariana dated backup dancer Ricky Alvarez for two months after her split from Big Sean.

She and the late rapper Mac Miller then had a two-year relationship, having worked together on the song The Way.

Conflicting schedules were blamed for their split and Ariana paid a heartfelt tribute to Mac when he died from an overdose at age 26.

Next, she dated Pete Davidson, and the pair got engaged but called it off in October 2018 after just over four months together.

Ariana’s relationship with Social House member Mikey Foster also lasted just months.

When Ariana went public with Dalton Gomez in 2020, his ex-girlfriend Rikki Barton posted on her Instagram Story.

“When you see your ex with the person they told you not to worry about," the caption read.

Ariana seemed to have found her forever partner when she tied the knot with the real estate agent in May 2021.

However, Page Six announced in July 2023 that the two were divorcing.

The Dangerous Woman singer was quizzed when it was noticed she had been gushing about Dalton on Instagram, three months after the February separation date stated in divorce documents.

Claims that she began dating her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater before she and Dalton split have been denied.

Ethan has a son with his high school sweetheart Lilly Jay and had celebrated four years of marriage in November 2022.

Lilly was allegedly “blindsided” by his decision to file for divorce in July 2023.

“[Ariana’s] the story, really. Not a girl’s girl,” Lilly told Page Six. “My family is just collateral damage.”

Ariana hasn't commented publicly on the gossip surrounding her relationship with Ethan.

However, she took to Instagram Stories ahead of the New Year to reflect on 2023.

“One of the most transformative, most challenging, and yet happiest and most special years of my life,” she wrote, according to Billboard.

“There were so many beautiful and yet polarized feelings.

“I’ve never felt more at the mercy of and in acceptance of what life was screaming to teach me.

“I have never felt more pride or joy or love while simultaneously feeling so deeply misunderstood by people who don’t know me, who piece whispers together and make what they want out of me and their assumptions of my life.”

SURGERY SPECULATION

In 2019, Ariana responded to a viral tweet claiming that she had undergone a nose job since reaching global stardom.

“Hayyy this my birth nose what tf [the f**k] did I log onto today lemme have a cute nose damn,” she said, according to Paper Mag.

Despite refusing the claims, the singer has continuously been accused of having had the surgery.

Makeup artist Stephanie Lange shared side-by-side photos of Ariana throughout the years in a video shared with her 1.86 million YouTube subscribers.

She said the Wicked star’s increasingly smaller nose was likely due to surgery rather than aging or filters, but added that it’s difficult to say for sure without looking at paparazzi photos.

She also speculated that Ariana may have had buccal fat removal or a subtle facelift, resulting in more pronounced cheekbones.

The cosmetic surgery rumors came before the singer got emotional in a Vogue video, where she spoke about her relationship with beauty.

“I had a ton of lip filler over the years and Botox. I stopped in 2018 because I felt so - too much,” Ariana said.

“For a long time, beauty was about hiding for me and now I feel like maybe it’s not.”

“I want to see my well-earned cry lines and smile lines,” she added.

“I hope my smile lines get deeper and deeper and I laugh more and more. Aging can be such a beautiful thing.

“Now, might I get a facelift in 10 years? I might yeah, but these are just thoughts I think we should be able to discuss.”

EATING HABITS

The 30-year-old took to TikTok amid fans’ concerns about her weight loss, to speak candidly about her dietary changes.

The three-minute clip racked up over 15 million likes, as it resonated with others who had received unsolicited opinions about their appearance.

“I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people's bodies, no matter what,” she said.

“If you think you're saying something good or well-intentioned, whatever it is.

“Healthy or unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, or not, we should really work towards not doing that as much.

“There are ways to compliment someone or to ignore something that you see that you don’t like.

“There are many different kinds of beautiful and ways to look healthy.

“For me, the body that you've been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body.

“I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly.

“At the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy, but that, in fact, wasn't my healthy.

“I know I shouldn't have to explain that but I do feel like maybe having an openness and some sort of vulnerability here will be - something like good might come from it.”

“You never know what someone is going through,” she added.

CONSTANTLY COMPARED

Ariana’s impressive vocal range and whistle tones caused her to be repeatedly compared to Mariah Carey when she first launched her pop career.

She has a four-octave range but cannot sing as high as the Hero songstress, according to Vulture.

A YouTube video of Ariana covering Mariah’s hit song Emotions 11 years ago now has over 46 million views.

It has been speculated that she took inspiration from Mariah’s My All music video for a scene in her Love Me Harder music video back in 2014.

Mariah responded to critics describing Ariana as the “young Mariah” in an interview on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club.

“First of all, I’m still young, I discount numbers. Numerically speaking, I stopped counting at 17,” Mariah said, via Billboard.

“But I wish everybody all the best of luck, and if this is a career path they choose, I hope that they can achieve longevity.”

Ariana paid tribute to the legendary singer when her recent collaboration with Mariah was released.

“I cannot believe the words I am typing ……

"Yes, And? Remix feat the one and only, queen of my heart and lifelong inspiration @mariahcarey is out this Friday!!!!!!!!!!!” she wrote on Instagram.

“There truly are no words that suffice.
